The Bouffant

It should never have gone out of style..
I was a little skeptical at first but my sister convinced me and now I'm pro-bouffant.
Not Amy Whinehouse size :/
not at all.
This came about as I attended a friends '50s themed 18th on the weekend.
It was a fantastic night and people really got into the theme, so that was lovely.
Next up, a paintball 18th.
For something slightly different and quite terrifying,
I've never gone before and I've been told it's painful...
Excited nonetheless.

The Swimmer

The Summer heat doesn't look to be ending any time soon.
Makes me wonder what life was like before air con.

When I was a little kid I lived right near the beach.
For some reason I seem to remember rushing home from school to hit the beach literally every afternoon with my younger sister.
Apparently that memory has been blown a little out of proportion over the years, or so I've been told.

They tend to do that, I've noticed.
Well it goes both ways really.
I get this from the fact that I've had an obsession with keeping journals mostly all of my life. Well the parts that I can remember anyway.
So either something sticks in your mind as this major event and over time becomes larger than life, or you forget how strong an experience of something really was.
It gets dampened down over time.
I wish I knew how memories worked... neurology would be really interesting.

That mildly opinionated post stayed at the top of my blog far too long.
I don't want you getting the wrong idea now.
Decided I'd try out these things called titles.

This giant chalk is nothing short of fantastic.

And this was happening way back in 1998. And I'm only hearing about this today.
Sometimes I just can't keep up.
No, most of the time.
But how is anyone expected to these days? What with the new ipad 2 and a new iphone out every other week. I don't think that owning either of those items could really appeal to me less.
That's probably the point though. We're not expected to keep up, we're not meant to either (you can't make money standing still .... unless you're this guy) And if you're silly enough to try and keep up, then ultimately they're just winning anyway right?
hrrmm ... since when does Jessy express real opinions on the internet. (Not that it's something a billion people haven't already thought before, but originality is a whole other discussion)
Something doesn't feel quite right.
I'll look at the giant chalk again... that will make me happy.

A little while back one of my best friends chey took me out for my 18th. It was such a lovely day and I wish we didn't live in different states so we could hang out all the time as I miss her so.

... I also just completed my first week of proper official university. Feels pretty good so far. Finding my way around the new campus fairly easily which is always nice. This semester I have Creative Industries, Modernism, Marketing and Global Business. Sadly the abbreviation used for International Business, a term that has been used rather frequently, is 'IB'. I thought I'd done away with it at the end of 2010 and would never have to hear or use the word again. I was wrong.
But that's just silliness.

At the very early outset my favourite subjects, surprisingly, are Modernism and Global Business. I wouldn't have predicted that. Also we are required to read an exorbitant amount when compared to high school standards. This makes me happy. As long as I keep up with it all for the rest of the semester I think I will like uni a lot. It feels like... I'm learning more? ... I don't know. It's definitely a faster pace. I'm kind of glad though that I haven't got a new job just now, I can only adjust to so many new things at once. That is.... one, apparently. Well it's one pretty big thing ... so yeah.

Well if anything the first week was reassuring. At this stage I'm quite happy with the decisions I made as far as courses go. Lets hope it stays that way.
What else..... it's my sisters 16th in, what,  three days. Wow that date crept up on me. For her sake I need to hurry up and get my driving hours up. I only have a year left. That's a pretty stressful thought. One of those things that's always in the back of your mind eating away.

I wish I had something more interesting to talk about right now but it's late and I was quite sick today :( so I'm tired... er than usual. And now my eyes are playing tricks on me and my front door has turned into a revolving door. Better lay off the drugs then... or go to sleep. Sleep it is.

My blog was starting to seriously lack any traces of colour... so here are some colourful happy things :D. This flower was one of the first photos I took with my new lens, and the thong love heart can be found somewhere in Manly...
Also I'm starting uni in a week. :) The lovely long break is almost over but I have a feeling it will be very good for me to get back into a routine and I miss study, as lame as that is.

32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.

So it has finally reached that point in the holidays when I run out of things to do and am sitting around at home quite a lot...  I decided to get into drawing on what will hopefully be a regular basis, since I'm kind of out of practice and all. I did this with black pen, something I'd normally only use for abstract things, it was a little different. I drew it from a photo on google ...somewhere... can't remember where :S
Anyway I had a job interview, which went fairly well I think, but who knows. Other than that not too much is happening at the moment. Sleeping in past midday is probably a sign I need to get a life.

Manly beach, blurred view of the city from the Gap, the Cross and Macquarie. What to do when you intend on driving into the city to see the carols only to find that there is not a single park within... well anywhere near the city at all. So instead I was taken on a guided tour of Sydney and the surrounding suburbs which was lovely in it's own way. This seems like so long ago given it was before christmas and new years and turning 18 and getting into uni... and so much happened all at once this summer, I'd say it would definitely have to be the most memorable so far.
I also applied for some jobs this week! At first dreading having to ever work again, but now that I've applied I am feeling rather keen. Though this feeling is amplified by my current lack of funds. So anyway fingers crossed I hear back some time soon :].

There are few things that I enjoy more than jumping on a ferry into Sydney to spend a day at the gallery de NSW. I must say today did not disappoint. We went on a guided tour of the art + soul exhibition and seeing artworks for real that I had only previously seen in library books made me smile especially. Good food and good company made the day complete and overall I think quite a success. Unfortunately my stay in Sydney is drawing to close very soon. But I guess I'll be back in a year :)

My puppy dog Chino wanted in on the action. Laying about in the sunshine. I couldn't feel further away from home right now what with the floods and all that's going on. I guess a rainbow would not be a bad reminder really, I am sure a lot of people have their fingers crossed right now.

Flowers for my 18th, these made me smile :)
... can not wait to get my hands on a new 60mm macro lens, should be fun times.

I do enjoy the sunsets where I am staying. There is nothing quite like a sunset on the beach :)These are two of my cousins. They are adorable but don't tell them I said that, they already think they are far superior to me!
I do love the way they look out for each other though. Anyway that is what I imagined was happening here ... until I was told 'No Jessy, we were just making a choo-choo train! :D'
Silly me.

Some shots from my first few days after arrival in Sydney.
I can now say I've shopped just about everywhere I think you could shop in Sydney. I have caught almost every manner of public transport apart from the ever impractical monorail. I saw the fireworks in Darling Harbour before Christmas and fireworks on Manly beach mere metres from the window of our apartment.
I recently made some new friends, two international students from China who, like me, just completed grade 12. Which, incidentally, we receive IB scores back for in 3 days... I think it'd be weird if i wasn't anxious. Even though it doesn't really matter anymore. Ahh well ... and then I turn 18. My parents will actually be in the same state as me for my birthday this year. Quite an accomplishment for all parties involved :)

Refraction.

Some fun times on Christmas day,
playing with the rainbow coming through a window.
And now I'm off to a five day camp. So I guess that's goodbye until the new year :)
